High School Students

Admission requirements for students entering the Bachelor of Business Administration with specializations in Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Project Management and Energy Management are as follows:

Completion of a Grade 12 program leading to a British Columbia Certificate of Graduation, or the equivalent, with at least a 65% average in the following:

  • Foundations Math 12 or Pre-Calculus Math 12 or Principles Math 12, or equivalent
  • English 12/English 12 First Peoples
  • English is the primary language of instruction at Yorkville University. See the Academic Calendar for Yorkville University’s required level of English proficiency for admission.

Mature Students

Admission requirements for mature students to the British Columbia BBA with specializations in Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Project Management and Energy Management are as follows:

A mature student is an applicant who has not achieved the British Columbia Secondary School Diploma or its equivalent and who is at least 19 years of age on or before the commencement of the program in which he/she intends to enroll. Consistent with Ministry guidelines, Yorkville University’s admissions policy for mature students creates a pathway for applicants who can demonstrate abilities equivalent to those of British Columbia high school graduates through the successful completion of courses at the postsecondary level or through proficiency Assessments.

English Language Proficiency (for both provincial jurisdictions)

Applicants whose native language is not English must establish proficiency in English sufficient for post-secondary study. Such proficiency may be established in one of the following ways:

  • Completion of secondary education where English is the language of instruction.
  • Successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of previous postsecondary education where English is the language of instruction.
  • Successful completion with the equivalent of “B” standing of a post-secondary level English for Academic Purposes program accredited by Languages Canada.
  • Confirmation of an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 550 (written version) or 80 (Internet based version); or an IELTS (International English-Language Test System) overall bandwidth of at least 6.5; or a Canadian Academic English-Language Test (CAEL) score of 60 or higher; or a score equivalent to these scores on another test of English language proficiency recognized by and acceptable to the university.

Yorkville University ESL Pathway Program

The ESL Pathway Program enables students, with less than the minimum required IELTS scores, to be accepted to Yorkville University programs in Ontario. The ESL Pathway offers two levels of study with content focused on improving your English language skills. You will leave the program with improved English language skills for reading, writing, speaking and comprehension. The levels are 12 weeks in duration and involve 25 hours of instruction per week. All students will have access to on-going language and international student services during their studies at Yorkville University. The ESL Pathway program is available at the 1835 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, M4S 1X8, Canada.

Students without an IELTS score will be asked to complete the Oxford Placement Test to determine their placement in either Level 1 or Level 2 of the Yorkville University ESL Pathway Program or enter their degree program directly or with a concurrent English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course. The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is available at respective campuses concurrently as part of the programs. (This course is a credit course that counts towards the completion of the degree.  There is no additional charge for the EAP course.)

British Columbia:

  • Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent) will enroll in Yorkville University’s regular academic program without condition.
  • Students with an IELTS score (or equivalent) of 6.but below 6.5 will enroll in the regular academic program but will enroll in an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course in Term 1. (This course is a credit course that counts towards the completion of the degree.  There is no additional charge for the EAP course.)

Please note: There is no ESL Pathway Program available at Yorkville University’s British Columbia campus at this time. Eligible applicants will be referred to one of the University’s ESL pathway partners.

Ontario:

Students with IELTS or equivalent score of 6.5 and higher will enroll in Yorkville University’s regular academic program without condition.

Students not meeting this criterion have the following options, depending on their IELTS score:

  • Students with scores above 5.5 but below 6.5 will enroll in the regular academic program but will enroll in an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course in Term 1. (This course is a credit course that counts towards the completion of the degree.  There is no additional charge for the EAP course.)
  • For scores between 4.and 5.5, students will have to successfully complete Level 2 of the ESL Pathway Program.
  • For scores lower than 4.5, students will have to successfully complete Level 1 and Level 2 of the ESL Pathway Program.

All students completing Level 2 of the ESL Pathway Program are eligible to start their academic program but will enroll in an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course in Term 1. (This course is a credit course that counts towards the completion of the degree.  There is no additional charge for the EAP course.)

Students without an IELTS score will be asked to complete the Oxford Placement Test to determine their placement in either (a) Level 1, (b) Level 2 of the ESL Pathway Program or (c) enter their degree program directly or with a concurrent English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course.

Note: In all cases, the university reserves the right to require proof of language proficiency before permission is granted to register in academic courses. Applicants from countries where English is the language of instruction, but is not the primary language of the general population, will be asked to demonstrate English-language proficiency.
